In mid-November, the foundation stone was laid for the extension of Kaltenkirchen's town hall. Construction of the new building, which will include office space, the magistrate's office, rooms for the mayor and a commercial area on Holstenstraße, began in July. Completion is expected in December 2022. The award-winning competition design envisages a self-confident cubic brick building that sets an independent accent next to the town hall, designed in 1983 by the Flensburg architect Welm. A special feature is the colonnade with town hall arbour in front of the commercial areas. The roof is interpreted as a calm stone crown with relief in the spirit of Nordic brick modernism. The extension follows the requirements for a sustainable and climate-efficient building with natural ventilation, a building management activation system for cooling and heating via heat pumps and a photovoltaic system.
