The approximately 8,800 square metre Europaplatz was opened in mid-September. The square connects the new Bahnstadt district with Heidelberg's main railway station. Around the square, five buildings were constructed to environmentally friendly passive house standards, a two-storey underground car park and a bridge. It is flanked by the Atlantic Hotel Heidelberg tower block, the so-called Stadtloggia with the Heidelberger Sparkasse savings bank and the Springer publishing house as well as a new building for the Volksbank Heidelberg. Over 100 rental flats were built in a further building block to the west. The design for the neighbourhood is the result of a competition won by Winking - Froh in 2017. Pola Landschaftsarchitekten was responsible for the open spaces.
