Rethebrücke
Europe’s biggest folding bridge, which spans 104 mtrs was developed in cooperation with Winking · Froh Architekten as design consultants from 2011 to 2017. The object planning has been carried out by Ingenieurbuero Grassl. The new folding bridge over the Rethe is located in the harbor of Hamburg and replaces the old bridge, which worked with a lifting mechanism. Since it opens in the middle the height for the passing ships is not limited any more. The four wings for road and railroad each fold up to 50mtrs. The Foundation is made out of concrete on special pile foundations. The four beams display a steel framework which blends well in the heterogenous environment of the Hamburg harbor, although on a second glance it catches the eye with its two positions.
