The winning design in the international Diekmoor competition is based on the theme of rural courtyards in a system of residential islands in the moor. In the centre, a green town square will be created at Langenhorn Nord underground station as the entrance to the district. The proposed development here will have ground floors with a mixed range of uses, including a mobility hub. The proposed courtyard typologies allow for a variety of housing types for around 700 flats with four to eight storeys. They are slightly twisted in relation to each other, creating exciting spatial sequences and green gaps between the residential islands. The jury praised the overall success of the work in sensitively implementing the desired building mass in the landscape and thus developing the special landscape and urban features of the site into a very high-quality and scaled new urban building block.
